Art in America Annual 1989-90 1988 in Review: Alternative Spaces Hello My Name Is. . . . (Sept. 23 - Oct. 15, 1988) included over 3,000 graffiti stickers peeled from the streets and subways of New York and assembled for the first time on one wall. According to Adam Buckman, Norman Magnusson, and Harley Spiller, the curators of the show, the new art form first appeared in 1982 and provides colorful clues to the city's vibrant street life, commenting on pop culture, music, sex, drugs, fashion, politics, religion, and more in a tremendous range of styles. |
